The Holiday [dvd]
This has to be the worst romantic comedy ever. Cameron Diaz managed to ruin every scene she was ever in. It probably would have been better as a gay romantic comedy between Jude Law and Jack Black, as they were the only two actors in the movie who actually seemed to care about giving a good performance. Not to say that I hate Kate Winslet's performance, I just think she should stick to more dramatic roles instead of comedic ones.

Beetlejuice [1988] [dvd]
Nice enough movie, not nearly enough Keaton of course, but I knew that from the start. Gave me a few laughs but I've seen better from Burton. (finished: July 11, 2006)

some very funny jokes but not enough to fill up the running time - even though it's only 70min

Max And Paddy's Road To Nowhere [dvd]
Brilliant comedy. Like a very smart spoof on the entirety of the 80's US TV culture. Riffs on the A-Team, buddy movies, just fantastic stuff all around.

Defining moment - "I guess that's why they call it the blues". When I hear the song on the radio, I think of _this_scene_ and nothing more.

Phoenix Nights: Series 1 and 2 [dvd]
Peter Kay is a friggin' genius. I have just gotten these after having watched the spinoff series "Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere", which is fan-fucking-tastic.

Wedding Crashers (R-Rated Widescreen Edition) [dvd]
Another romantic comedy masquerading as a screwball guy movie. Well acted by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan, from a fine script by first timers Steve Faber & Bob Fisher. Christopher Walken puts in a great performance as the Cleary clan patriarch. (finished: February 12, 2006)

The Plot Against Harry [dvd]
Strange, somewhat compelling comedy about a Jewish gambling don who decides to "go straight". Nice portrait of the late 1960's filmed in black and white. (finished: February 11, 2006)

I'd seen it at the movies, but watched it again with Keely. (finished: February 4, 2006)

The Cable Guy [dvd]
Ben Stiller directs Jim Carrey in this disturbing comedy of loneliness. The highlight for me is Carrey's karaoke version of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love". This is far better than you'd expect.

Ben Stiller's screwball comedy spoofing the fashion industry is hilarious. Stiller and Owen Wilson are fantastic together. After seeing this, check this out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/bluesteel

The Aristocrats [dvd]
Imagine a scene where Bob Saget tells the raunchiest version of a raunchy joke you've ever heard, and then follow that scene with the freaking Smothers Brothers telling the same joke in a perfect straight-man act. Brilliant.

The Aristocrats [dvd]
You wouldn't think that 100 comedians telling the same dirty joke would make an interesting film, but it manages to be both funny and insightful the whole way through.
