The Holiday [dvd] This has to be the worst romantic comedy ever. Cameron Diaz managed to ruin every scene she was ever in. It probably would have been better as a gay romantic comedy between Jude Law and Jack Black, as they were the only two actors in the movie who actually seemed to care about giving a good performance. Not to say that I hate Kate Winslet's performance, I just think she should stick to more dramatic roles instead of comedic ones.

Oldboy [dvd] there are some gratuitous and show-offy scenes, but it's nonetheless a relentlessly entertaining flick

Me and You and Everyone We Know [dvd] YAN ensemble drama but a very enjoyable one with lots of thematic detail and mirroring. And thematic 20" rims and those purple lights underneath - thematically speaking, of course

Millions [2004] [dvd] Takes an endearing concept with some truly cute kids, spins them into the path of a violent criminal bent on reclaiming what he stole and... nothing. Falls flat. Feels like four different directors tried to make the same movie and they just cut it up and edited it together. Really bad.

Death In Venice [1971] [dvd] Very slow; you need to be in the right mood for something like this. But if you let it, it can become fascinating. The remembered interludes felt rather melodramatic to me, but then the whole thing was rather intense. I think I needed a bit more insight into the character, though.

Fresh [dvd] This movie was pretty good, and it tricked me into thinking that it was possible for hip, urban black characters to be in believable stories, which in turn led to me watching Belly.
That is unforgiveable.

Life Is Beautiful [dvd] a beautiful, beautiful movie. one of the best out there. hands down.
the father tries to protect his son with love and humor in the concentration camps during the holocaust.
father:The game starts now. You have to score one thousand points. If you do that, you take home a tank with a big gun. Each day we will announce the scores from that loudspeaker. The one who has the fewest points will have to wear a sign that says "Jackass" on his back. There are three ways to lose points. One, turning into a big crybaby. Two, telling us you want to see your mommy. Three, saying you're hungry and want something to eat.
son: [watching his uncle being sent to the gas chamber] Where is Uncle going?
father: Uh... oh, he's playing on a different team. Goodbye, Uncle!
son: Goodbye, Uncle. (finished)

Palindromes [dvd] Todd Solondz's Palindromes is surreal and brilliant and I need to see it about ten more times. It's a "sort of" sequel to Welcome to the Dollhouse and once again Solondz seems to be saying that every last one of us is flawed and we barely deserve the meager life we're given. That's awesome. House of Sand and Fog [dvd] I like Ben Kingsley. That is why I end up watching shitty movies like this. Yeah, Jennifer Connelly tried to act, yeah, it's kind of a sad story, but it's a boring story, about someone who fucks their own life up because they don't care enough about it to keep it going, much less make it better. Lame. Boring. Long.

The Godfather [dvd] Although I was a little disappointed by the horse head in the bed scene, which was good, but I had heard so much about it that my expectations were too high. I thought this movie was great. I especially loved the camera work. Man, the scene where a man is strangled from behind is amazing--repulsive and riveting at the same time.
