The Hills Have Eyes (Unrated Edition) [dvd] had promise, but weak dialogue and 70s pacing wreck it

The House With a Clock In Its Walls (Lewis Barnavelt) by John Bellairs [book] This was one of my favorite books as a kid. I can't say it holds up that well as adult reading. Nice atmosphere, but it drags near the end. (finished: June 2, 2006)

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer [dvd] Not as good as I remembered it, but very good nonetheless. It has no suspense, but plenty of shock, and a consistent repulsiveness

Bride of the Monster [dvd] I was keen to see this after hearing about it in the movie "Ed Wood", which features its making. But really, if you've seen its recreations of the filming of the most dramatic moments (Lugosi's "Home? I have no home!" speech, for instance, or the hilariously bad fake squid), then there isn't a lot to look forward to, unless you're desperate for authenticity.

The Tommyknockers (Signet) by Stephen King [book] I got to around page 450, realized I had about 300 left and that I could read another book in that time. Tommyknockers wasn't terrible but there wasn't enough to keep me interested. I also think I started to recognize it devolving into mumbo-jumbo much like The Stand. (finished: February 6, 2006)

The Colorado Kid (Hard Case Crime) by Stephen King [book] Every now and then, Stephen King will write something that just pisses me off. It's inconclusive, or boring, or pointless, or all of the above. Think "Pretty Pony Time" from Nightmares and Dreamscapes, or The Golden Years (which really just offended me with it's banality). This is not _quite_ one of those books. It's an interesting story, an interesting idea anyways, and it's amusingly written. But it's a vignette. It's a shortened short story. The story doesn't arc, it just ends, inconclusively. Very aggravating when I was done. Still enjoyed the concept though, moreso after reading that it was in fact based on a news article. Real or no, it's a fascinating concept. (finished: August 15, 2005)

The Stand : Expanded Edition: For the First Time Complete and Uncut (Signet) by Stephen King [book] This was the first Stephen King book I ever read, as well. Read it during a roadtrip to my Aunt's funeral in Kansas. That was a pretty good trip, actually, we drove from Phoenix to Atchison KS in 24 solid hours. We stopped only to fill up on gas and eat Denny's $2.99 Grand Slam breakfasts. I got to wear a camelhair jacket to the funeral and see a bunch of attractive young girls that were only related to me by marriage.
Come eat chicken with me, beautiful.
It's so dark. (finished)

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Book Two: City of Night by Dean Koontz [book] Second of the Frankenstein trilogy. Fanstastic read, my only concern is how he's planning on bringing it together in the third book. (finished: January 25, 2006)

The Sleeping Beauty Novels: The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty/Beauty's Punishment/Beauty's Release (Boxed Set) by Anne Rice [book] Have you ever dated one of those girls who seemed normal, and then the more you found out about her the more weird she got until you just found yourself seriously considering going in for STD testing or psychotherapy just in case?
Mine was named Hannah, and one of the first moments that light flickered on and showed me the horrible things underneat was when she gave me these books to read.
Anne Rice is a talented individual, but she is also disturbed. She has nine different distinct varieties of "fucked up" going on in that weird head of hers, and instead of channeling it in these books like she did in the Vampire books (OK, just the first like four), she just lets it all loose here.
Quick note for all you fellas out there - If you are dating a girl and she tells you her fantasy is to put a popsicle in her vagina until it is numb --- She doesn't actually like sex. That is her way of saying "something is wrong inside me, please distance yourself before I bring you down in my horror web".
Two points just because if you are very careful, you can masturbate to this book. You have to be like a race driver though, you have to remember the course you're gonna take and stick with it, otherwise you're jerking off to some guy with rose thorns in his sack. (finished: October 12, 1995)
