Equilibrium [dvd]
It's been a while since a flick pissed me off so much in the first 20 minutes. Puts style so far ahead of substance that the future world it proposes doesn't even make sense. I guess I should try and finish it but...

Pastwatch The Redemption of Christopher Columbus by Orson Scott Card [book]
This began interestingly but lost steam when the characters seemed very unrealistic to me. Maybe if the book had illustrated how insanely bad the present-day world was that this group of people were totally at ease with destroying it (and themselves) and rewriting history. Midnighters #3: Blue Noon (Midnighters) by Scott Westerfeld [book]
Not the best of the series, this one feels a bit like an afterhought. The characters and the surreal world they live in are the primary reason to read these books, but in this final one, there doesn't seem a lot left for them to do. (finished: March 31, 2006)

A Signal Shattered by Eric S. Nylund [book]
Jack has been contacted by advanced alien life. An interstaller shark known as Wheeler, who has set himself up as a sort of cargo-cult god, has given Jack technologies that are indistiguishable from magic. Wheeler's goal is for Jack to either destroy himself or become like Wheeler. Wheeler's mistake: Jack is a hacker. (finished: March 28, 2006)

Signal to Noise by Eric S. Nylund [book]
Quite good. Nylund takes a first contact situation and twists it slightly, his setting a too-believable dystopian Earth whose decayed morals seem to be writ large in the universe. There are many well-written players, a great deal of intrigue, and few survivors. (finished: March 27, 2006)

Gridlinked (Tor Science Fiction) by Neal Asher [book]
This one kind of sucked. The premise was okay, but the plot was a tad muddled and the writing itself was just not good. The first Amazon recommendation I've ever had disappoint me. (finished: March 23, 2006)

Woken Furies (Takeshi Kovacs Novels) by Richard K. Morgan [book]
There's something about these books that doesn't agree with me. I think he purposefully glosses over information in order to intrigue the reader but it just confuses me. (finished)

Market Forces by Richard K. Morgan [book]
What the fuck was this book about? No, really, I just finished reading it and I have no idea. The main character starts out as kind of an asshole, and throughout the book he becomes a bigger asshole. Aaaand? No, wait, that was it. Shite.
